Christine Rhyner Christine RhynerWe haven’t actually met the people who’ve bought our house. We’ve caught glimpses of them outside as they came to see our home and then again to do the inspection. It’s ironic that we have two Asian children and the family that will live here is in fact, Asian. This is a first for our little neighborhood where everyone who lives on our block is Caucasian. Then again, it was a first for the area when we adopted our two children from Vietnam and China. When my daughter Olivia found out they were Chinese, she said, “Yay! Chinese!”
Perhaps they were drawn to some of the Asian décor in my home or pictures of my children. I don’t know. What I hope is that they will acclimate well to the neighborhood and be fully accepted for their differences in appearance and culture, just as I had hoped my children would be.
As trailblazers in my family who adopted and internationally at that, I am happy to turn over my home to a family that will essentially be trailblazers ethnically to our little community. I wish them well here and hope that this home will afford them many beautiful memories and bright days ahead.
